December 2006
During the past few months, I have been in the process of visiting each one of the current 25 primary and the 4 secondary PSAP’s in the metro area, plus Chisago and Isanti Counties. During my visits, I try to encourage dispatch staff to view the MESB web site. www.mn-mesb.org
Dispatchers in general have a lot to offer to the success of our radio systems, whether conventional or the newer 800MHz regional radio. I had a discussion recently with a former co-worker, Anoka County Lead Dispatcher Jani Bialke; she was excited to talk about a couple of very recent success stories relating to 800MHz regional radio. This exchange led me to reflect on how many times these incidents come and go without fanfare each day. (You can see these stories now at www.mn-mesb.org then [click] SUCCESS WITH RADIO.
I am asking that anyone that has a success story e-mail it to me, with the approval of the PSAP manager or designee, and I will post the story on the web site under a new access point called SUCCESS WITH RADIO. I am also thinking that meaningful comments from other readers (dispatchers) would be nice to “tag” to the story. A success story can be anything from the clarity of the radio, to the ability to patch and talk with surrounding agencies, to the fact that there are a number of resources to choose from. You decide the success! You decide the format!
If you would like to attach a comment to one of the stories, please e-mail me. Your name will be posted with the comment.
So PLEASE encourage your dispatch staff to detail a success story and get it e-mailed to me. This would be a small recognition for the job that is done. One last thing, remember this is a public site and can be read by anyone with access to the internet.
