With the proliferation of new telephone companies offering service in the metro area, knowing who to contact at the serving telephone company becomes critical for the Public Safety Answering Points (PSAPs). The National Emergency Number Association provides support of a 911 Company Identifier program, and acts as administrator for the Company ID file content and updates. A national Company ID service allows the Public Safety Answering Point to identify the switching carrier for the caller, and to determine the 24X7 number of the Company for emergency contacts needs.
