The Metro Region EMS program is dedicated to the coordination and improvement of emergency medical services within the seven metropolitan counties of Anoka, Carver, Dakota, Hennepin, Ramsey, Scott and Washington counties.

 

The Metro Region EMS provides a forum where the public, private and non-profit sectors can meet to create long-term visions for EMS in the metro area.

 

The MESB  serves as the financial and contractual agent of the Metro Region EMS for the purpose of accepting and dispersing funds under agreements with state and federal agencies in the metro area. The EMS Committee is a committee of the Metro Region EMS appointed by the MESB, and consists of thirteen representatives comprised of community health representatives, physicians, communication representatives and ambulance service providers. The Metro Region EMS and its committees proposes, reviews and recommends standards and procedures which coordinates and improves emergency medical services in the metro area and conceives and adopts plans to ensure a coordinated and effective response to multiple casualty incidents and special events regardless of hazards and cause, either natural or man-made. The Region just in the last 3-4 years has sponsored research that has changed the way EMS is delivered nationwide while also impacting patient outcomes. Research projects such as these have led to new pre-hospital protocols that were rapidly adopted that have improved patient care and outcomes.
